How we tie our shop Bow ties

When I first began sewing these beautiful bow ties I was one of those who had to learn how to tie one properly. While searching the world wide web I found multiple versions of how to do it. But I finally found one that I could do on myself as well as someone else. Fast forward two years and I had the idea to include a little paper on how to tie with all orders but I quickly realized I was doing it differently than a lot of guides out there. So here I am creating a tutorial for all of you to use if you would like. I seem to have always done it so the middle section of the bow is twisted in the back instead of straight but hey it’s good to be a little different. So it may not be the “proper” way but that’s how we do them here.

These steps and pictures are in the perspective of if you were doing it on someone else. To tie on yourself just switch the lefts and rights and you’re good to go. You can also just do it how I explain it, the bow will just be tied from the other side.

STEP 1:

Take the right half of the bow tie and place it over the left side. Make sure the right side you move over is 1 inch or so longer as shown in the picture.

STEP 2:

Take the right side and tuck it under letting it stick up as shown in the picture.

STEP 3:

Now take the left side and fold it in half so the “point” is facing the right side as shown in the picture.

STEP 4:

Take the right side and bring it forward so it is draping over the folded side of the bow tie as shown in the picture.

STEP 5:

Next fold the right side of the bow and bring it under and towards the back side.

STEP 6:

This is where I do it differently than most tutorials. Bring the folded end of the part you just brought behind and tuck it into the opening behind the left side. It should be the spot where you are able to pull it through so the folded side ends up on the right side and the “point” stays on the left.

STEP 7:

Now you can tighten and loosen both sides until the tie is even and perfectly snug in the middle. As shown in the photos, to loosen the middle part lightly pull on the “points” on each side. To tighten the middle part lightly pull on the folded sides of the bow.

STEP 8:

You now have a fully tied bow tie and are ready to show it of to the world!!
